This red wine is crafted entirely from the Tempranillo variety. Following alcoholic fermentation, malolactic fermentation takes place, with 30% occurring in oak barrels and 70% in stainless steel tanks. The ageing process is conducted in fine-grained French oak, with a significant portion in new barrels and the remainder in barrels that have previously held wine. It spends 15 months in wood, followed by additional bottle ageing before release.
Macán and Macán Clásico represent the shared vision of two prominent names in the wine industry, Rothschild and Vega Sicilia, for the region of Rioja. These wines exude great elegance, where the harmony of their aromas and flavours reveals the authenticity of the land from which they come and their ability to produce exceptional wines.
Macán Clásico is more approachable and expressive, offering a friendly and pleasurable sip, with a distinct character reflective of its origins and a simplicity that makes it particularly appealing.
Their coexistence stems from a desire to uphold the Bordeaux tradition of producing a first and second wine. Both wines are treated equally throughout the process, from vineyard to classification tasting. At that point, the different lots from the vintage are separated, allowing the individual characteristics of each wine to shine through, highlighting the distinctions between them.
