The AOP Monthelie 1er Cru "les Clous" is a red wine from Domaine Changarnier, a small family-owned winery located in the village of Monthelie, at the heart of the petite Burgundy appellation of the same name, which borders Volnay, Meursault, and Auxey-Duresses, spanning just 109 hectares, of which 34.8 are classified as Premier Cru. Changarnier possesses a mere 5 hectares spread across ten different appellations, producing a total of twelve wines with a production that does not exceed 30,000 bottles.
This wine comes from a 0.72-hectare plot currently being converted to biodynamic practices. Crafted from Pinot Noir, it undergoes maturation in new oak barrels for 20% of the time over a period of 12 months. The wine is elegant, aromatic, and rich in nuances—a true gem with only 3,300 bottles produced. It will continue to improve in bottle over the next five years.
