Cointreau is a renowned French triple sec liqueur, crafted from the finest orange peels. Established in 1875 at the Cointreau distillery in the village of Saint-Barthélemy-d'Anjou, located in the picturesque Loire Valley, it boasts an alcohol content of 40% vol.
The process begins with the careful drying of orange peels in sunlight, followed by maceration and distillation in traditional copper stills, yielding an essential oil that imparts a rich, natural aroma, beautifully balancing sweet and bitter notes. This essential oil is then expertly blended with alcohol, water, and sugar syrup, along with a selection of spices. The secret of its precise composition has been meticulously preserved for over 130 years.
Traditionally enjoyed as a dessert liqueur or after coffee, Cointreau's clear, white spirit form makes it an exceptional choice for cocktails and mixed drinks. When enjoyed on its own, it is typically served neat or over ice. This versatile liqueur is also favoured for flavouring desserts like tarts and creams, as well as fruit salads and savoury dishes such as duck à l'orange.
